"Déjà Vu View" art by Jeffrey Falk
@Central Gallery, Floor 1
March 1 - April 24, 2020

(Déjà vu is a French phrase that literally translates as "already seen". In the popular sense it describes what some see as a paranormal phenomenon where a person gets a feeling that they have lived through a present situation before or are familiar with a location they have never been to. The exhibit is not about this phenomenon. It is about seeing familiar "iconic" images in a new and different way.)

The art in this show uses existing/found imagery that is familiar to many viewers. These "already seen" iconic images are then altered or recombined in new ways that change the familiar meanings and open up new interpretations for the viewer. It is about art as a language, in and of, itself.

Join us for a First Friday reception 6:30-8:00 pm on March 6, 2020 featuring live, electronic music by Majestic Dubs. The reception is supported by the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library.

"Ritual" Phoenix College Art Program exhibit
Second Space Gallery, Floor 2
February 3 - March 28, 2020

Phoenix College Art Program will present a group show hosted at Second Space Gallery in Burton Barr Central Library of new 2D and 3D works focused on creative interpretations of the theme RITUAL.

Every society has their own set of rituals that are performed as common practice. Rituals can transcend religion, culture, and tradition, while serving as critical tools that help guide us and provide purpose in our lives. What does ritual mean to you?

IN FLUX installations
First Floor and Second Floor
"Curious Creatures" by Christy Puetz
First Floor
With the use of technology having a strong presence in society today, I feel creating art using traditional mediums and techniques are more important than ever. My sculptures incorporate a mix of fiber arts, symbolism, texture, and research to engage people in magical ways. Every stitch, bead, and handmade shape is a visual story filled with history and the human touch

"Radiant Grove" by Daniel Funkhouser
Second Floor
Radiant Grove is a trio of toy-like alien trees made from laser cut acrylic and CNC carved plywood designed specifically to react with Burton Barr Library’s plentiful natural light. Its color gradients constantly change - while riding the elevator, moving around each side, and throughout the day as light fades to night. The tree forms speak to the joys of growth and learning embodied by the library, while Radiant Grove’s computer-inspired imagery nods to the library’s expanding role into digital services and technology

Effective Monday, March 16, ALL PHOENIX PUBLIC LIBRARY LOCATIONS and BOOK DROPS are TEMPORARILY CLOSED. We are extending our borrowing period and waiving all due dates until further notice. Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time.

The @Central Gallery is normally open during library hours and during First Fridays, 6:30-8:00PM.
