Happening Now / Artist Activity

I have been traveling the state for the last 8 months, working small and on paper-- many postcard-sized landscapes.

ABOUT

I am a student of life and, more recently, of art.

A camera taught me to think about composition first and foremost. Life drawing pushed me to work fast and loose. These sensibilities have carried over into my paintings.

Most of my work is painted on repurposed material—cabinet doors, someone’s discarded painted panel, wooden boxes, or scraps of slate. The size constraint of whatever material is at hand makes an interesting starting point for each new composition.

Portraits have become a focus. I find the expressions, gestures and energy (of both people and animals) to be fascinating. Capturing emotion and intelligence through portraiture, finding the humanity in humans, is a personal challenge.
